Introduction of the department

The department of pulmonary and critical care medicine (PCCM) of Shulan (Hangzhou) hospital was established in July 2016. In December 2019, it was awarded the national respiratory discipline certificate of tertiary hospitals. The lung transplantation successfully carried out from 2020.

Since its establishment, PCCM department has rich clinical experience and skills in diagnosis and treatment of common respiratory system diseases such as community acquired pneumonia, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in severe pneumonia, respiratory failure, diffuse lung disease and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment

The PCCM department is good at preoperative and postoperative diagnosis and treatment of lung transplantation, and the perioperative success rate of lung transplantation in the department is 100%. PCCM department is the first one to carry out and promote the venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention and therapy work in Shulan (Hangzhou) hospital. The PCCM department also develops screening and diagnosis of pathogens of special lung infections linking to the actual work tightly to ensure successful diagnosis and treatment of lung infections in solid organ transplantation patients and other patients with low immune function.

The PCCM department also has an advantage over early diagnosis and accurate treatment of pulmonary nodules and the standardized full-process diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. A number of skilled operations such as respiratory endoscopy interventional alveolar lavage, EBUS-TBNA, EBUS-GS, cryobiopsy, balloon dilation, tracheal stent, APC and hard endoscopic treatment were carried out.

The PCCM department specializes in the management and diagnosis of respiratory critical patients, especially the respiratory support (oxygen therapy, the use of non-invasive and invasive ventilators) for severe patients. Meanwhile, the department undertakes the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory for the whole hospital.

In addition, the PCCM department has held academic exchanges at home and abroad for many times. Since 2017, it has successfully held Zhejiang Province Interstitial Lung Disease continuing education courses for four times. There are also annual regular academic exchanges with German and American professors.
