Departments & Center

Introduction of the department

The Department of Infectious Diseases was established in January 2016. It is currently recognized as a specialized department of Zhejiang Province’s non-public medical institutions, a key regional discipline in Hangzhou, and a distinctive specialty in Gongshu District. The team consists of 29 physicians (including Professor Dr. Lanjuan Li, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 9 chief physicians specializing in infectious diseases) and 53 nursing staff (including 8 clinical nurses). The department has 130 fixed inpatient beds, including 4 dedicated artificial liver beds and 10 ICU beds for patients with severe liver diseases.

The department is equipped with four core platforms for discipline development: the Artificial Liver Treatment Center, the ICU for Severe Liver Diseases, the P2 Laboratory for Microbiota Transplantation, and the Standardized Liver Disease Management Center. Clinically, the department focuses on four key areas: 1) Comprehensive artificial liver treatment for liver failure, 2) Microecological intervention for liver diseases, 3) Full-cycle management of fatty liver disease, and 4) Precision diagnosis and treatment of cirrhosis and liver cancer. The primary conditions treated include liver failure, decompensated cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis B, liver cancer, and liver disease-related infections, with the aim of establishing an integrated diagnosis and treatment system encompassing prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment

1. Diagnosis and Treatment System for Common and Frequently Occurring Diseases

(1) Liver Function Abnormalities: Covers various causes such as drug-induced liver injury and metabolic liver diseases.
(2) Infectious Diseases: Includes systemic infections (bacterial/fungal/viral), parasitic diseases, extrapulmonary tuberculosis, etc.
(3) Diagnosis and Treatment of Fever of Unknown Origin.

2. Platform for Diagnosis and Treatment of Complex and Critical Illnesses
(1) Severe Liver Diseases: Including decompensated cirrhosis (ascites/hepatic encephalopathy), liver failure, and liver cancer complications.
(2) Critical and Emergency Conditions: Variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, septic shock, severe pneumonia.
(3) Special Populations: Diagnosis and treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients.

3. Specialized Technical Advantages
(1) Li's Artificial Liver Support System: Liver replacement therapy.
(2) Microecological Intervention: Standardized microbiota transplantation for hepatic encephalopathy, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and other conditions.
(3) Portal Hypertension Full-Cycle Management: From early screening to TIPS (transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt) intervention.
(4) Precision Antiviral Therapy: Personalized treatment plans based on HBsAg quantification.
(5) Respiratory Support Technology: High-flow nasal oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation support.
(6) Nutritional and Metabolic Intervention for Liver Disease: Nutritional plans guided by the MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) score.
